Free Tools

CIVL is building free legal tools that turn common legal questions into quick answers: how much stamp duty you will pay, what court fee applies, whether you are still within time, and how to word an RTI application.

How to use free legal tools safely

Our free legal tools give estimates based on published rates and rules. Rates change, and states revise stamp duty and court fees from time to time, so always confirm the final figure on the official portal before you pay. The tools do not store what you enter.

Until the free legal tools launch

Use the official sources directly: the SHCIL e-stamping portal for stamp duty in many states, RTI Online for central RTI applications, and the Acts on India Code. Our Document Library and the Civil Law and Civic Services guides explain each step in plain English.

Our first free legal tools focus on the two questions readers ask most: how much stamp duty they will pay, and what court fee applies to a claim.

Free legal tools: stamp duty and court fee calculators by CIVL

Why we are building free legal tools

Stamp duty, court fees and limitation periods are set by different laws and differ from state to state, so even a simple question can mean reading several notifications. Our free legal tools will bring the published rates and rules together in one place, show how the figure was worked out, and link to the official source so you can check it yourself.

Each tool will be tested against official examples before launch, and will show the date its rates were last checked. If you would like to be told when the free legal tools go live, or want to suggest another tool, Ask CIVL.

Which free legal tools will come next?

The rent receipt generator and the interest calculator are now live. Next, we plan to add the stamp duty and court fee calculators and a checklist builder for common registrations. Tools will be added in the order readers ask for them most, so your suggestions through Ask CIVL shape what we build. Every one of our free legal tools will stay free to use, with no sign-up needed, and will link to the guide that explains the law behind the numbers, so you understand the answer and not just the figure.
