Information you can check
Every CIVL guide is written from official sources — the Act, the rules, government notifications and official portals — and links to them, so you can verify what we say. Each guide shows the date it was last updated.

Know your rights in plain English
CIVL helps you know your rights in the everyday legal problems Indian families face, from a landlord who will not return a deposit to a cheque that bounced. Every guide is written in plain English from official sources such as the India Code, government portals and court rules, and is reviewed when the law changes.

We cover two kinds of questions. Civil law guides explain your rights in property, tenancy, consumer disputes, money recovery and family matters. Civic services guides walk you through government paperwork: Aadhaar and PAN updates, certificates, property records, RTI and business registrations.
Why know your rights before you act?
- Deadlines matter. Many claims must be filed within a fixed limitation period, and some notices must be sent within days.
- The right forum saves money. A consumer complaint, a civil suit and an RTI appeal each go to a different authority.
- Correct paperwork avoids rejection. Stamp duty, registration and witnesses decide whether a document is valid.
- You can often do it yourself. Filing an RTI or a consumer complaint does not need a lawyer.
Know your rights with ready-to-use documents
The CIVL Document Library pairs each guide with a ready-to-use format, such as a rent agreement, legal notice, affidavit or will, with notes on stamp duty and registration. If you are still unsure, Ask CIVL and we will point you to the right guide.
CIVL gives general information to help you know your rights; it is not legal advice. For official text, see the India Code and the National Portal of India.
