These terms of use in short: you may use CIVL for personal and business information, you may use purchased formats for your own documents, and CIVL content is not legal advice.

CIVL terms of use for the website and document formats

Last updated: 15 October 2026

These terms govern your use of civl.in (“CIVL”). By using the website you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.

1. What CIVL is

CIVL is an independent information platform that explains civil-law matters and civic services in India in plain English. All content is general information and is subject to our Disclaimer. CIVL is not a law firm and is not a government website.

2. Using the website

  • You must be at least 18, or use the website under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
  • You agree not to misuse the website: no hacking, scraping at scale, spamming, uploading harmful code, or using it for any unlawful purpose.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of anything you send us.

3. Intellectual property

The CIVL name, logo, guides, graphics, templates and tools are owned by CIVL or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may read, print and share links to our pages for personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, republish or sell our content without written permission. Text of Acts, rules and government notifications quoted on CIVL remains in the public domain.

4. Templates and purchases

  • Paid templates are licensed for your own personal or business use. You may edit and use them for your matters, but may not resell or redistribute them.
  • Prices are shown in Indian rupees and include applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.
  • Templates are digital products delivered by email or download. Because they are delivered instantly, purchases are generally non-refundable. If a file is faulty or not delivered, write to us within 7 days and we will fix it or refund you.
  • Payments are processed by a third-party payment gateway under its own terms.

5. Ask CIVL

Ask CIVL is for general questions. We try to read every message, but we do not promise a reply to each one or a reply within any time. Our replies are general information, not legal advice, and do not create a lawyer–client relationship. Questions may be used, without names or contact details, to write new guides.

6. Third-party links, ads and services

The website may contain links, advertisements and affiliate links to third parties. Your dealings with them are solely between you and them.

7. No warranty and limitation of liability

The website and its content are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, CIVL is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from reliance on the website. Our total liability for any paid product is limited to the amount you paid for it.

8. Changes

We may change the website and these terms at any time. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in India will have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Questions about these terms of use

These terms of use are governed by Indian law, including the Indian Contract Act, 1872. If anything is unclear, please Ask CIVL, and read these terms together with our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.

Under these terms of use, a format you buy is licensed to you for your own documents.

Terms of use: licence for CIVL document formats
