Ask CIVL is where you can send a question about a civil-law problem or a government service in India. Use the form below, and read the notes on this page so we can point you to the right answer.

Have a question about a civil-law matter or government paperwork? Ask us. We read every question and use them to write and improve CIVL guides.
Good to know
- Search our guides first — your answer may already be there.
- Do not share Aadhaar, PAN, bank, passport or other ID numbers.
- We share general information only. We cannot review your documents, draft for your case, or represent you.
- For urgent matters, deadlines or court cases, please consult a qualified professional.
- For a government application, the official portal or office is the final authority.

How Ask CIVL works
- Send your question using the form, with your state and the topic.
- We read every message and reply by email, usually with a link to the guide or document that answers it.
- Popular questions become guides, so other readers benefit too. We never publish your name or details.
What to include when you Ask CIVL
- Your state or union territory, because many rules differ by state.
- Key dates, such as when a notice was received or a cheque bounced.
- What you have already tried, and any reference or application number.
- No passwords, Aadhaar numbers, bank details or other sensitive data.
What Ask CIVL cannot do
CIVL gives general information, not legal advice. We cannot represent you, draft documents for a specific case, or recommend any lawyer. For an emergency, call 112. For a consumer problem, you can also contact the National Consumer Helpline. If you need a lawyer but cannot afford one, you may be eligible for free legal aid through the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and your District Legal Services Authority.
Before you Ask CIVL, try these
Many answers are already on the site: browse the Civil Law and Civic Services hubs, or find a ready-to-use format in the Document Library. If you still need help, Ask CIVL using the form above.
When you Ask CIVL, the more specific your question, the more useful our reply.

For example, “My landlord in Pune has not returned my ₹50,000 deposit two months after I vacated; I sent a WhatsApp message but no notice” is far easier to answer than “landlord not giving deposit”. We will reply with the guide or format that fits, such as the security deposit refund notice.
